5 Pieces of Advice for an Aspiring Entrepreneur
It only feels like yesterday I was sitting on a park bench with a laptop, one staff member, and an idea. That was 25 years ago.
Today, I lead a global team of 50 across multiple continents — and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that growth rarely follows a straight line. Over the years, I’ve made plenty of mistakes, taken a few risks that paid off, and discovered what really matters in business.
In this video, I’m sharing the five lessons I wish someone had told me — the practical, unfiltered advice for anyone building something of their own.
The best decisions I’ve made have come from the same place I started—A bit of curiosity, and a gut feeling I couldn’t ignore.
It only feels like yesterday I was sitting on a park bench with a laptop, one staff member, and an idea.
That was 25 years ago. Today I lead a team of 50, working across continents.
Over the years, I’ve made a lot of mistakes—and a few good decisions too.
Here are five pieces of advice I’d give any aspiring entrepreneur. Things I wish someone had told me back then.
1. Stop chasing perfection.
Perfect ideas don’t win. Action does.
I’ve seen too many people overthink their way out of progress.
Launch fast. Learn fast. Adjust.
2. Hire for mindset, not just CVs.
The best people I’ve hired weren’t always the most qualified.
They were the most adaptable. The most curious.
Skills can be taught. Attitude usually can’t.
3. Don’t neglect your own marketing.
I see it all the time—brilliant businesses that never grow because no one knows about them.
You have to invest in visibility.
Not just when you’re ready. Before you are.
4. Build resilience—not just ambition.
There will be moments where things feel impossible.
Get used to uncertainty. Protect your energy.
And know when to rest without quitting.
5. Remember why you started.
It’s easy to get lost in growth, goals, ego.
But the best decisions I’ve made have come from the same place I started—A bit of curiosity, and a gut feeling I couldn’t ignore.
Wherever you are on the journey—just keep going.
It won’t look how you thought it would.
But that’s kind of the point.
Follow for more real-world advice from someone who started small—and still remembers what that felt like.
